Cops searching for graffiti vandals at school

BY JOSEPH MALLIA

joseph.mallia@newsday.com

The Suffolk police gang unit Thursday asked for the public's help finding those responsible for spray painting graffiti on the grounds of Eastport-South Manor High School.

In the April 6, 2008 vandalism someone painted graffiti on various structures and vehicles, and on the press box windows at the track at the Moriches Middle Island Road campus in Manorville.

Most of the graffiti appeared to be the letters and number STB5 in green and red paint. An Aramark company van parked on campus was defaced.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential and the caller will be eligible for a cash reward, Seventh Squad detectives said.

I don't think having a community center will help . Where are the parents when these kids are out to all hours of the night.  The parents need to control their kids and enforce discipline when needed. The problem wiht parents today is they are afraid to discipline their kids for fears of CPS coming after them.  TRUST ME, if you know your child is up to no good and out to all hours of the night, it's ok to enforce discipline even a daily ritual beating is ok in my book ( just kiddin).  It will keep them in line. But parents need to be more stern with their kids just like their parents were on them.  Instead of allowing them to run wild on the streets. Get these kids involved in after school activity. Have them play sports or do something constructive to help the community.
By letting these kids run wild and do what the please reflects poorly on the parenting skills and ultimately that child will not know the good in life because they will be leading a life of crime from committing graffiti, vandalizing personal property of others, etc.  Parents need to step up their game and get involved in what their children are up to.  Spend more time with them and get involved instead of allowing the television or video games babysit them.

I agree ....  Unfortunantly I believe the parents of these kids that "grafiti" are well aware of what their kids are doing.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why the paint cans are in their rooms  and the paint on their hands and jeans!  These kids are sniffing this stuff too and they need HELP.
