A message from Jennett Meriden Russell, captain of The Amazedness Kite Fly Team.
Like all too many people, my life, and the lives of my family have been forever touched by cancer. I lost my oldest brother, Dana, to a brain tumor in 2000. He was only 46.
I never knew anyone who embraced all that life had to give as much as Dana. And his life was robbed from him in the worst possible way because of this horrible disease.
I wish that no one would have to suffer his tragic death, and my family's eternal loss.
That is why I have created The First Annual Amazedness Kite Fly, which will take place at Smith Point beach on Saturday, September 19. Dana loved to fly sport kites, and I can think of no better way of honoring his memory than filling the sky with the kites he loved.
All proceeds from the kite fly will go to the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life.
It's going to be a fun day for the entire family, with kite contests and prizes for the highest flying kite, biggest kite, smallest kite, prettiest kite, uggliest kite, etc.
There's going to be live music and other events at the Smith Point park pavilion. The day will end with the lighting of luminaries along the shoreline.
The Amazedness Kite Fly Team will be at the Relay For Life at Center Moriches High School on Saturday, June 13. Join up to be a part of the team, or come down and sign up for the kite fly.
