The East Moriches BOE, Dr. Russo, and the Finance Committee have done a great job building the reserve account to over  $900,000. The district should be able to handle the cut in state aid without impacting the reserves or the taxpayer.

The same ignorant poster gets on to give try to give the illusion that all is well in EMO.  We need to face facts....the education that our K-8 kids stinks compared to our neighboring districts.  The technology is outdated, the programs are substandard and the middle school building is falling apart.
But as long as we can continue to be the Westhampton Beach cash cow, all the Hampton wannbe's will be happy!

I agree with get real.  How stupid does the EMO Board of Ed look with even putting out the notion of a possible merge with Westhampton.  It was always obvious that they would never ever merge with EM.  The people of EM are treated by the people of  WHB exactly like the WHB kids treat the EMO kids who go to WHB high school.......like 2nd class citizens.

Um, not really.  Half of that balance was used to offset the decrease in the assessment for the year.  We only have around $400K left.  Not a small amount, but I thought the proposed cut was near that amount, so it is possible to have no money left in the reserves by the end of the year.

Thank you!  we have $1,200,000 in reserve, $300,000 more than my estimate. Russo, BOE, Finance Committee Great Job!!

Go to the East Moriches School District Website-Click Our District-Board of ED-
Right side Year end Audit 2009-Page 9-General Fund -Unreserved Undesignated-
$1,267,677 in reserve. Deduct the 65-70,000 to cover the slight drop in tax assessments. $1,200,000 in reserve.

If we have so much in reserve.....why does my tax bill keep going up.up...up.up?  If Russo, and our wonderful BOE can answer that one I'll be impressed

We're both wrong on the numbers.  It was $1,200,000 as you said, but the $487,000 comes off for the reduction in the tax levy.  We have about $700,000 left which is just about the one-time decrease in WHB students at $20,000 each this year.  One time only guys!

I'd rather have relatively consistent rise in taxes than the yo-yo increases in years past.  Taxes will rise more quickly if state aid is continually cut, write your legislator.

You are mixing the numbers. It would be a good question to bring up at the next school board meeting.

The audit report 6/09 yearend showed $1,267,677 in reserve. Deduct the 65-70,000 to cover the slight drop in taxable value, we have $1,200,000 left in reserve. We are operating within the 2009-10 budget.

I agree with you now. I hope that you are correct, this will be needed if aid gets cuts. Probably when.... Thanks for clearing it up.
