URGENT! Right now the group of Senators responsible for negotiating the terms of the federal stimulus package is considering cutting all of the education funding out of the bill.

This outrageous action could rip at least $2-3 billion out of the package for New York, forcing our schools to do even more layoffs of teachers and staff, and cuts to programs our kids need!

Click HERE to send Senators Schumer and Gillibrand a message now! Tell them to make sure education funding stays in the stimulus package.

A quick analysis has shown that this proposal would reduce the number of jobs saved or created by 650,000 nationwide.

We can't afford to have this money taken out of the stimulus. Funding for education will allow us to build and fix schools, stop state budget cuts to education, and it'll help the economy, too.

In a speech last night, President Obama lamented that some on Capitol Hill are arguing that the stimulus bill has turned into a spending bill. To that, the President responded, "Well, what do you think a stimulus is? That's the whole point!"

We must act now to save this stimulus bill. Send your message to Senators Schumer and Gillibrand now! Click HERE

And be sure to forward this message to everyone you know.

Thanks!

Dear Friends,

Asia Milton is 10 years old. She's a student at P.S. 288 in Brooklyn. And she'd be among the children hardest hit if Governor Paterson's budget proposal, including a $2.5 billion cut to education, passes.

Asia's classroom would lose thousands of dollars in funding under the governor's plan. At the same time, New York taxpayers making more than $250,000 a year wouldn't see their state income taxes go up at all.

Then tell the State Senate to balance the budget fairly.

The State Senate has asked for suggestions on how to balance the budget, and we need to send a strong message that a Fair Share Tax Reform is the right path to follow.

Governor Paterson's plan would slash the funding for schools our children rely on.

A Fair Share Tax Reform would raise taxes on the wealthiest 5 percent of New Yorkers -- and help us prevent cuts to schools like Asia's and other schools across the state.

We'll all need to sacrifice to help balance the budget. But children like Asia and her classmates shouldn't bear more than their fair share of the pain. Click HERE to send the State Senate a letter NOW!

And be sure to forward this message to everyone you know.

Thanks!
