(09/25/06) HAUPPAUGE - School districts in Suffolk County are a hotbed of financial waste and fraud, according to a grand jury report, the Suffolk district attorney announced Monday.
In a 350-page report, the grand jury condemned all 70 Suffolk school districts for poor and unethical uses of funds. There were no indictments. District Attorney Thomas Spota says administrators earn disproportionate compensation packages. One administrator, who Spota would not identify, earns more than $400,000 annually before benefits. Pension program abuses were also found. The report revealed some administrators to have private pension accounts in addition to their state pension.
The grand jury report recommends the county create an Inspector General for Education, form a compensation committee for each school district and require all business administrators to hold a bachelors degree in either accountancy or finance.
Over 2 years has passed and Spota seems to have dropped the ball? What happened? They scolded all 70 districts but then let them have free reign to do as they please! Where is the oversite in this State?

Our school BOE will form a committee and put themselves in charge of it like they always do............
