NYC Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade needs new route

Broadway no longer beckons for the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

New York City is trying to figure out where to put those big balloons and floats come November.

Broadway becomes a pedestrian-only zone around Times Square and Herald Square this spring. The goal is to make the city greener, safer and less congested.

Crain's New York Business says the parade may shift to Avenue of the Americas.

The Times Square Alliance says portions may be moved to Seventh Avenue north of Times Square. That would keep it closer to Broadway.

The 2.5-mile route starts at Central Park West and West 77th Street. It has ended at Herald Square, in front of Macy's flagship store.
