The Moriches Bay Little League All-Stars began a trek to Williamsport, Pennsylvania and the Little League World Series this week with a number of tournament games.
MorichesBay has three teams in this year’s tournament, with an 11- and 12-year old baseball team, a 9- and 10-year-old baseball team and an 11- and 12-year-old softball team.
The tournament has a double elimination format, meaning that if a team loses twice, its trek is cut short.

The girls won their last game, 10-0, over the North Fork Little League on Monday evening at Beachfern Field in Moriches. MorichesBay starting pitcher Erin Creen threw a no-hitter as 14 of her 15 outs amazingly came by strikeout.
The game only lasted five innings due to a 10-run rule, which stipulates that if a team has a 10-run lead after five innings, the game is over.
Claire Brady, Tori Fahey, Pam Schenk, Carly Seguto and Danielle Paul all powered the lineup with two hits each.
In their first game of the tournament, the girls lost, 5-1, against North Shore Little League at the North Shore Complex in Rocky Point.
Kiley Nolan was the starting pitcher for MorichesBay, and scattered five runs as she pitched the entire game, striking out nine.
NorthShore, according to Creen, as a 9- and 10-year-old team, won the state title last season, and now, a year later, they look as if it could repeat that feat.
“They just had a better game than us,” he said. “They’re an extremely good team, an incredible program, well coached. Hope- fully, we get to meet them in the district finals. But we’ll take it one game at a time.” The MorichesBay softball All-Stars played a game on Wednesday evening. Results of that game will appear in next week’s issue of The Press.

MorichesBay lost its first two games and is now out of the tournament. The boys lost, 6-3, to Mastic Little League on Monday evening at Beachfern Field in Moriches, a loss that followed an 8-3 defeat to Mattituck Little League on Saturday, also at Beachfern.
For the loss to Mastic, MorichesBay head coach Jeff Foster admitted that he and his team underestimated the Mastic team, which had its number one pitcher on the mound.
Zach Brady started the game for MorichesBay and went four innings, striking out three. The defense also did well, playing an errorless game.
After striking out in the first inning with a 2-0 lead, MorichesBay subsequently left runners on base, four of which were stranded on third.
In the loss to Mattituck, Foster explained that his players just didn’t hit the ball the way they should have.
“The kids played a good game,” he said. “Pitchers pitched well enough where we should have won the game, but we just didn’t score runs. I’ve had this group since they were 9- and 10-year-olds, and they’re usually good for 10 runs a game. But we had fun, that’s the main idea.”
The game was tied at two runs each until the fifth inning, when Mattituck scored five runs. Foster admitted that he probably should have left his son, Bryan Foster, on the mound for the fifth inning. But since he had thrown 60 pitches, Foster took him out. There is a rule in the tournament that states that any pitcher is allowed to throw up to 85 pitches, but after that must be relieved.
Daniel Franchi had a double and Foster doubled and singled twice for MorichesBay’s only hits.
