Teen reports abduction in Manorville; Baldwin schools issue alert in separate case

September 23, 2009 by JOHN VALENTI / john.valenti@newsday.com

A 15-year-old girl told police she was grabbed off a Manorville street Monday by two men in a red pickup truck who threatened her with a knife, requested "sexual acts" and then let her go unharmed.

The incident comes as Baldwin school officials told parents Tuesday that a student had been repeatedly followed home from a bus stop by a red landscaping truck.

In the Manorville incident, the girl told police she was walking south on Chapman Boulevard just north of Hot Water Street about 4:20 p.m. when a red four-door pickup truck stopped next to her.

A man in the backseat grabbed her by the back of her sweatshirt and forced her into the truck, where he threatened her with a knife. The man requested sexual acts, police said.

The girl refused and was driven around for a while before being pushed out of the truck near Sunrise Highway and Eastport Manor Road, police said. She then contacted her parents, who immediately called police.

Eastport-South Manor Central School District told parents Tuesday to remind their children to be on guard for suspicious behavior and "unwarranted or unsolicited contact." It is unclear if the girl is a student in the district, since she has not been identified by police.

In the e-mail alert, district superintendent Mark A. Nocero wrote: "While the situation did not occur near school grounds, the safety and welfare of children within our community is always a primary concern for the district."

Suffolk detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.

In the Baldwin incident, a red landscaping truck followed a middle school student from a bus stop "on more than one occasion," officials at Baldwin Middle School said in an e-mail alert to parents Tuesday.

The latest incident was Thursday, the student told police. Nassau County police are investigating those reports. Anyone with information can call 1-800-244-TIPS. Calls will be kept confidential.
