M. CRAIG CHARVAT

DEMOCRATIC

BACKGROUND:

Charvat, 38, of Blue Point, also is on the Working Families line. He is a Center Moriches High School history teacher. Charvat graduated from Patchogue-Medford High School and holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Stony Brook University. He earned a master's degree in education from Dowling College and a master's in educational administration supervision from St. John's University. He is a member of the Blue Point Community Association. Before teaching, he was a financial analyst.

ISSUES: Charvat said housing is his top issue. He wants to strengthen laws and increase fines against slumlords, including imposing a "three strikes and you're out" rule. Charvat said he would cut wasteful spending and patronage jobs. He wants to revitalize downtowns and work with Brookhaven National Laboratory and Stony Brook University to develop green technologies.
